Countries that do not require visa to visit the UK
The United Kingdom (UK) allows citizens of certain countries who are on their Visa-Exempt list to visit the country and for tourism or business for a short stay of up to six (6) months.
If you intend to stay more than 6 months or work in the UK, you will be required to attain a standard visa regardless of your country.
Most of the countries identified on the visa-exempt list are members of the European Union (EU) and Commonwealth States. People from the US also require no visa to visit the UK.

What Type of Visa Do I Need?
If you usually require a visa to enter the UK as a tourist, you will also need a transit visa. There are two types of transit visas for the UK, and the requirements vary depending on your country of origin:
- Visitor in Transit Visa: This visa is necessary if you pass through British border control and intend to leave the country within 48 hours. You will need a Visitor in Transit Visa if you come from a country that typically requires a UK visitor visa.
- Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATV): If you plan to change flights at a UK airport, this visa is required but will not go through British border control.
