A Peruvian fisherman was found alive after spending 95 days lost at sea

In a remarkable tale of survival, a Peruvian fisherman has been found alive after an astonishing 95 days adrift in the open sea.

Maximo Napa Castro, a Peruvian fisherman, was recently rescued after surviving 95 days lost at sea in the Pacific Ocean.

Castro set out from Marcona, Peru, on December 7, 2024, for what was supposed to be a two-week fishing trip. However, a storm blew his boat off course ten days into the journey, leaving him adrift.

As his initial supplies ran out, Maximo survived by collecting rainwater and eating whatever he could find, including turtles, birds, and cockroaches.

Despite extensive searches by his family and unsuccessful efforts from Peru’s maritime patrols, he was finally located on March 12, 2025, by an Ecuadorian patrol vessel, approximately 1,094 kilometers (680 miles) off the coast.

In critical condition and severely dehydrated, he was rescued and reunited with his family in Paita, Peru, near the Ecuadorian border, on March 14.

His remarkable story of survival highlights his incredible resilience; he reportedly spent the last 15 days without food, relying solely on his will to live and thoughts of his family, including his two-month-old granddaughter.

“I didn’t want to die, for my mother. I have a two-month-old granddaughter—I clung to that. Every day I thought about my mother,” Napa stated.
