An American Airlines jet’s engine caught fire after it diverted to land in Denver on Thursday, forcing the evacuation of passengers using the plane’s slides, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The Federal Aviation Administration told media in a statement that American Airlines Flight 1006 had departed from Colorado Springs Airport and was bound for Dallas Fort Worth International Airport when the “crew reported engine vibrations.”

“After landing and while taxiing to the gate an engine caught fire and passengers evacuated the aircraft using the slides.”

The plane was carrying 172 passengers. Some passengers were evacuated using emergency slides while others evacuated by walking the plane’s wing. 12 people were reportedly transported to hospitals with minor injuries.
