Pierre Marcel Poilievre PC MP is a Canadian politician who has served in Parliament since 2004. He is a member of the Conservative Party and now represents the Carleton riding in the Ottawa area. Poilievre was previously minister of democratic reform from 2013 to 2015 and minister of jobs and social development in 2015.
Poilievre earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Calgary. After that, he worked as an advisor to Stockwell Day, the leader of the Canadian Alliance. Poilievre was first elected to the House of Commons in the Nepean—Carleton riding in 2004 and has since been re-elected three times.
He won the re-established Carleton riding in 2015 and was re-elected twice more in the same riding. Poilievre was the Opposition critic for jobs and industry in February 2021, after serving as the Shadow Minister for Finance and the National Capital Commission from 2017 to 2021.
He reclaimed his old position in November 2021. Poilievre is standing for the Conservative Party’s leadership in 2022, after stepping down as Shadow Minister for Finance.
