Born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on the 4th of February 1998 to Michael Scales and Jacaynlene Monk, Malik Monk is the news sensational kid of basketball sports. It is believed that his parents got separated at an early stage of his life.
The talented young chap has an older 31 year old brother called Marcus Monk who is also an athlete in the NFL.
At the university, Marcus played for the Arkansas team which was mostly in football competitions. The player throughout high school and college participated in all sporting events and earned a spot in the 2008 NFL draft. Nonetheless, things didn’t work out as he couldn’t make it past the practice squads.
Malik’s brother Marcus has played a significant role in his life by urging him to participate in sports most especially basketball. Malik initially attended the East Poinsett County High School in Lepanto, Arkansas where he continued to exhibit his skills as a freshman earning a him a spot in the school’s team.
He was later on transferred to the Bentoville High School which is also in Arkansas precisely Benton, and furthered to the university of Kentucky.
It was at this point in his life that he took a serious interest in basketball career and boldly declared that he would not continue with the final three years of collegiate eligibility.
The handsome sports man is tall with a height of 6 feet and 3 inches as his body measurement with a body weight of 91kg.
On June 22, 2017, Malik who was playing for the Charlotte Hornets 2017 NBA was chosen with the eleventh overall pick in his team’s draft. Things took a rough turn, when in 2017 he missed the full Summer League season due to an injury he sustained at his ankle.
He managed to secure 17 points, two steals and two assists against Denver Nuggets which was substantial in the fourth game.
Malik was later selected to join the Hornets NBA G League side affiliate during his rookie season. Investigations conducted on the young man found him to be abusing substance, infringing on the NBA substance use Policy. The penalty handed down to him was an indefinite suspension.
He was however brought back after it was confirmed he was obliged to the anti-drug program. The player receives a salary that is sufficient for a basketball player and most of his earnings come from supporters, publicity, and enterprises.
The Charlotte Hornets singed him for a whooping $15,762,047 for a four years contract with a regular salary of $3,931,512 which is subjected to an increment.
The American professional basketball player signed for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association in 2021.
