The boxing world lost a promising young fighter when Smith suffered a fatal heart attack in late November.
The Jeopardy champion suffered complications from abdominal surgery and developed a pulmonary embolism, which ultimately caused his death. His family has accused the hospital of negligence and medical malpractice in the death.
The family has filed a lawsuit against St. Rose Dominican Hospital-Siena Campus, part of Dignity Health. While the exact cause of Smith’s death has not been disclosed, his cause of accident is not yet known.

The doctors did not give any details on his condition. His mother, Debbie Smith, wrote on Twitter that the family is “heartbroken” and said that the cause of death is a mystery.
Nevertheless, she has said that her son’s passing is the result of an unexpected medical emergency.
