Brazil Presidet, Lula saysTrump wants to become Emperor of the world

Brazilian President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has urged the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump to respect other countries’ sovereignty.

On Thursday, January 20, President Lula accused Donald Trump of wanting to “become an emperor of the world”.


“Post-World War II democracy has been an example of the best governance of the last 70 years”, said Lula in an interview with a local radio station, “but the way (Trump) acts, he is trying to become an emperor of the world”.

“He is trying to chime in on all countries and in all public policies,” he added.

After Trump introduced the “dictator” allegations against Ukraine leader Volodymyr Zelensky, claiming he was responsible for Russia’s invasion of his country, Lula has stepped in.

Washington has certainly irritated the Kyiv government as well as leaders in Europe by talking directly with Russia in search of an acceptable way out for the war.

Lula had not spoken to Trump since his taking over in January. He reiterated that the United States was Brazil’s most important commercial partner and urged for greater displays of “friendship.”

Lula did not give specific examples, but urged Trump to “realize that the sovereignty of each country must be respected.”

“We want this protectionism to stop,” he said, referring to tariffs announced by Washington on Brazilian products such as steel.
