Chris Paul better known by his nickname “CP3,” is an NBA basketball player for the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Paul is largely recognized as one of the all-time great point guards.
He’s won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award, the NBA All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award, two Olympic gold medals, and five times led the NBA in assists and a record six times in steals. He’s also been named to twelve NBA All-Star teams, ten NBA All-Defensive teams, and nine NBA All-Star teams.
He was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021. From August 2013 to August 2021, he was the president of the National Basketball Players Association. He is one of the world’s highest-paid athletes, with endorsement deals with businesses like Air Jordan and State Farm.
Chris Paul is the son of Charles Edward Paul and Robin Jones, and was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Charles “C.J.” Paul, his older brother, raised him in Lewisville.
Because he, his father, and his brother all had the same initials, his family gave him the nickname “CP3.”
As a former athlete, Charles Sr. taught his sons basketball and football during their childhoods and coached them in several juvenile leagues.
The Paul brothers spent their summers as children working at a service station operated by their grandfather Nathanial Jones; Paul credits his grandfather with numerous life lessons and refers to him as his “best buddy.”
