Citibank mistakenly credits client with $81 trillion dollars instead of $280

For a moment someone beat Elon to become the world’s richest man and the first ever trillioniare but that was shortlived.

American bank Citigroup made a very dire and huge mistake in a recent transaction they made at their bank which would have caused the cooperation a fortune had it not been found.

Citibank credited a customer’s account with $81 trillion instead of the $280 the customer intended to deposit. But they were able to reverse the mistake within 2 hours.

The error is considered a near miss. Two initial officers failed failed to identify the mistake until a third employee detected and flagged it for a reversal.

This is not the first time the bank group has made such an error. Last year, there were several cases with only 10 reported. The bank lost over a billion dollars due to transaction errors like this.
