After a horrific defeat at the hands of Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder was rushed to the hospital as a precaution.
Wilder lost to Fury for the second bout in 20 months after being knocked down in the third, tenth, and eleventh rounds.
Fury was knocked down twice in the fourth round, but he was able to get back up and dominate the rest of the fight.
As a result of his extended beating at the hands of Fury, Wilder appeared out of shape by the halfway point.
Because of the severity of his beating, the former champion was taken to University Medical Center for examination.
I did my best, but it wasn’t good enough tonight,” he said. “I’m not sure what happened. I know that in training he did certain things, and I also knew that he didn’t come in at 277 pounds to be a ballet dancer. He came to lean on me, try to rough me up and he succeeded.
Fury celebrated his victory by serenading the Las Vegas crowd with an Elvis Pressley medley.
And he said:
Like the great John Wayne said, iron and steel baby!
I give him the glory for the victory. He’s a tough man. He took some big shots tonight. It was a great fight, as good as any trilogy in history.
I beat him three times and I’m a sportsman and wanted to give him some love and respect. And he didn’t want to give it back. That’s his problem and I pray for him.
This was a great fight and October 9, 2021 will go down in history, I hope.
I always said I was the best in the world and he was the second best. Don’t ever doubt me. When the chips are down, I will always deliver.
However, he was forced to confront Wilder, and after stopping him, he acknowledged that his plans had been disrupted.
I came into this fight tonight thinking, you can only do your best in life and whatever’s written in the stars for you will be,- he added.
I’ve been home for two weeks out of the last six months, I just had a little daughter born and I didn’t have the best preparations in camp. But I don’t make excuses, I was a fit as fiddle and as strong as an ox.
