Meet Errol Musk, Elon Musk’s polarizing father: Tesla CEO Elon Musk has dubbed his South African father “evil” and dismissed rumors of a family fortune built on an emerald mine – but are they ready to reconcile?
Elon Musk is an entrepreneur and investor. He is the co-founder of Neuralink and OpenAI, as well as the founder, CEO, and Chief Engineer of SpaceX. He is also an angel investor, CEO, and Product Architect of Tesla, Inc., and the founder of The Boring Company. Musk is the world’s wealthiest individual, according to both the Bloomberg Billionaires Index and the Forbes real-time billionaires list, with an estimated net worth of roughly US$203 billion as of June 2022.
Elon Reeve Musk was born in a segregated area of apartheid South Africa on June 28, 1971. Maye Musk (née Haldeman), his mother, is a model and nutritionist from Saskatchewan, Canada, who was reared in South Africa. Errol Musk is his father, a White South African electromechanical engineer, pilot, sailor, consultant, and property entrepreneur who used to own half of a Zambian emerald mine near Lake Tanganyika. Musk has a younger brother, Kimbal, and a younger sister, Tosca, both born in 1972. (born 1974). Joshua Haldeman, his maternal grandpa, was an adventurous American-born Canadian who led his family on record-breaking trips to Africa and Australia in a single-engine Bellanca plane. Musk’s ancestors are British and Pennsylvania Dutch.
Musk’s adenoids were removed when he was a toddler because physicians feared he was deaf, but his mother eventually determined that he was simply thinking “in another planet.” Elon’s family was rich when he was younger, and Elon’s father was elected to the Pretoria City Council as a member of the anti-apartheid Progressive Party, with the Musk children presumably sharing their father’s anti-apartheid sentiments.
Errol said his children had wonderful relationships with Black people, including their domestic workers, in an interview with The New York Times. Because to the government’s apartheid regime, Musk decided not to join in South Africa’s mandatory military service. This, Musk says, influenced his choice to leave South Africa soon after graduating from high school.
Musk primarily lived with his father in Pretoria and elsewhere when his parents divorced in 1980, a decision he later regretted two years later. Musk’s relationship with his father has deteriorated. On his father’s side, he has a half-sister and a half-brother. Elon grew up going to an Anglican Sunday school.
Musk became interested in computers and video games when he was ten years old, and he bought a Commodore VIC-20. He learnt computer programming from a book and, at the age of 12, sold the code for Blastar, a BASIC-based video game he made, to PC and Office Technology magazine for $500. Musk, an awkward and introverted child, was bullied throughout his childhood and was once hospitalized after being thrown down a flight of stairs by a group of boys[why?]. Before graduating from Pretoria Boys High School, he attended Waterkloof House Preparatory School and Bryanston High School.
Who is Errol Musk?
Although the Elon Musk said his father is “excellent at engineering,” he also called him a “poor human being” in a 2017 Rolling Stone profile.
After his parents (Maye and Errol) divorced, Elon moved in with his father. While his father was not physically violent, he remarked in the interview that “you have no concept” what kind of person he is. Errol, he claimed, had committed “nearly every crime you can think of.” You won’t believe what you’re about to hear.”
Elon said that he relocated Errol, Maye, and their children to Malibu, but that the relocation did not go as planned. He claimed that he had tried “everything” to alter his father for the better, but that “he, no way, it simply grew worse.”
According to the South African blog 2OceansVibe, Errol recently stated that the last time he saw his son was six years ago. He did, however, imply that his connection with his son had improved and that they would talk on the phone, according to the publication. “We care for each other,” he added.
Errol fathered a child with his stepdaughter
In 2018, it was revealed that Errol and his stepdaughter Jana Bezuidenhout had fathered a child. Elliot, the baby, was 10 months old at the time. Errol was 72 years old at the time, and Bezuidenhout was 30. Errol said in the newspaper that Bezuidenhout’s boyfriend had pushed her out and that she had slept over at his residence. He also admitted to being single for 20 years and said “I’m just a man who makes errors.” He claimed at the time that Bezuidenhout and the infant were living with him, but that they were not dating.
Bezuidenhout’s photos with Errol were subsequently posted on Facebook. “Aren’t you related to Elon Musk?” someone inquired on Bezuidenhout’s Facebook page, to which she replied, “yeah, why?”
It has been generally believed that Errol’s breakup with Elon was precipitated by the knowledge that he had fathered his stepdaughter’s child. Errol’s take on the whole ordeal? “Elon didn’t think that was very good. “I take life as it comes from my perspective,” he has been reported as saying.
The emerald mine
According to several media reports, Errol owned an emerald mine, which enabled his family to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle at the time.
However, in 2019, Elon slammed the rumor on Twitter, claiming it was false. He also ridiculed rumors that Errol’s money was the reason he was able to attend university. “I worked my way through college, and I ended up with roughly US$100,000 in student debt,” he explained.
The Musk family lived in one of the largest residences in Pretoria, South Africa, according to author Ashlee Vance’s book Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future. Errol, she claimed, managed a thriving engineering firm that worked on commercial, retail, and residential projects.
Did Errol kill people?
Errol informed the British press that he tried to live in the United States but disliked it, so he returned to South Africa. He is said to now reside in the tranquil town of Langebaan. In the Western Cape, South Africa, the area is renowned as the “jewel of the West Coast.”
Errol allegedly shot and killed three persons who broke into his house, according to Musk in his Rolling Stone interview.
According to the New York Times, Errol claimed to have been charged with manslaughter but was acquitted due to self-defense.
