In Paris, police evicted hundreds of migrants from a cultural center, which they had used as a shelter for months.

French police evicted over 400 migrants, including unaccompanied minors, from Gaîté Lyrique Theater in Paris after a 3-month occupation demanding shelter.

The operation began at 6 a.m., with tear gas briefly used as protesters chanted “Shame” and clashed with officers. 46 arrested, 9 injured.

The eviction sparked clashes with protesters condemning France’s treatment of undocumented migrants.

Tear gas was also fired to disperse protesters. One of those evicted said: “A country that has colonized your country cannot treat you like that.”

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo defended the eviction, citing safety concerns but promised emergency housing was offered.
