George McLaurin was the first African-American student to been admitted to Oklahoma University on September 29 1948. After numerous unsuccessful attempts.
The admission was granted, however, he was admitted on a segregated basis. He was not permitted to be social with students of whites, that greatly affected him.
George McLaurin later took the school to court on a number of occasions to seek the same protections for students irrespective of race.
In 1950, the Supreme Court ruled that McLaurin was not given equal treatment, as required by the Constitution. Since the time, discriminatory practices against the black community were eliminated.

George McLaurin married an actress named Mary McInnis. His wife and he had five children. The names of the children were Mary Mcinnis (1843 – 1883), Mary Blanche Mclaurin (1880 to 1967), Sallie Mclaurin (1875 to 1941), Duncan Mclaurin (1872 to 1951) and Daniel D Mclaurin (1876 – 1930).
His children were all educated and have lived their own lives. George McLaurin was born in South Carolina , theUSA on 14 April 1842 to Daniel Douglas McLaurin and Mary McDaniel.
He passed away on January 4, 1913. At present there is no sign that any of his children is living.
