George McLaurin was the first African-American student to been admitted to Oklahoma University on September 29 1948. After numerous unsuccessful attempts.

The admission was granted, however, he was admitted on a segregated basis. He was not permitted to be social with students of whites, that greatly affected him.

George McLaurin later took the school to court on a number of occasions to seek the same protections for students irrespective of race.

In 1950, the Supreme Court ruled that McLaurin was not given equal treatment, as required by the Constitution. Since the time, discriminatory practices against the black community were eliminated.
