Ghislaine Noelle Marion Maxwell is a convicted sex offender and former British socialite. In 2021, she was found guilty of child sex trafficking and other crimes in association with Jeffrey Epstein, a millionaire and convicted sex offender.

Ghislaine Maxwell was born in 1961 in Maisons-Laffitte, Yvelines, France, to Elisabeth (née Meynard), a French-born scholar, and Robert Maxwell, a Czechoslovak-born British media mogul. Her father was of Jewish origin, while her mother was Huguenot (French Protestant).

Maxwell was born two days before her fifteen-year-old brother Michael was killed in a car accident, leaving him in a coma for the rest of his life. Ghislaine’s mother later said that the accident affected the entire family, and that Ghislaine had displayed signs of anorexia as a youngster.

Ghislaine spent her childhood in Oxford, where she lived with her family at Headington Hill Hall, a 53-room mansion that also housed the offices of Pergamon Press, a publishing house run by Robert Maxwell.

Her mother stated that she raised all of her children as Anglicans. She attended Oxford High School for Girls in North Oxford, then Edgarley Hall residential preparatory school in Somerset at the age of nine, and Headington School at the age of thirteen.

Maxwell studied A-Levels at Marlborough College before graduating from Balliol College, Oxford, with a degree in Modern History with Languages in 1985.

Maxwell was supposedly her father’s favorite and had a good relationship with him. Maxwell told Tatler that her father built computers at Headington in 1973, and her first job was learning how to use a Wang and eventually programming code.

According to the New York Times, he forbade Ghislaine from bringing her lovers home or being seen with them in public after she began attending Oxford University.
