The 2021 edition of the Ghana Football Awards happened last night Saturday July 3, and there were some big wins for our footballers and coaches but that is not without controversies.

Just Last week The entire Ghana was thrown into a heated debate after the VGMA when renowned Gospel musician Diana Hamilton was crowned the overall artiste of the year with a large section of the media is of the view that the love master and sensational singer,KiDi rather deserves the award.

Whiles the dust has not even settled yet, another debate, banter and argument have raised its controversial head in the sporting fraternity at the 2020/21 Ghana football Awards last night that saw Coach Samuel Boadu of Hearts of Oak walking home as the Best Ghanaian’Coach of the year’.

The basis of awarding Coach of the year to the Phobians coach is what some people in the footballing scene failed to understand as they believe he doesn’t deserve it compare his achievement so far to that of Coach Karim ZITO the head coach of the National U-20 Satellite team .

Achievements of Both Karim ZITO and Samuel Boadu in the 2020/2021 season.

Coach Samuel Boadu came to pick Hearts of Oak in the second round of this year’s league at the time the team was struggling to stay within the top 4. Hearts of Oak for the past 11 solid years have not won any official trophy, a lot of coaches have tried and failed including the current black stars coach C.k Akunnor. Through the tactical acumen of Samuel Boadu now it has become crystal clear that Hearts of Oak have won this year’s league in advance with three matches to go. If this is anything to go by then clearly Samuel Boadu deserves more than accolades for breaking that 11 years the phobians trophy drought.

Karim ZITO under the year review won two international trophies for mother Ghana as the head coach of the National U-20 Black Satellite . ZITO and his boys first won WAFU- Zone B tournament held in Benin for Ghana , and further won the Afcon held in Mauritania that qualifies the team for the World cup. So under the year 2020/21 Karim ZITO as head coach of U-20 conquered West Africa Zone B and conquered the entire Africa as well.

The last time Ghana won this trophy was 2009 when the likes of Dede Ayew, Dominic Adiyah and co. under the leadership of Sellas Tetteh conquered Africa and the world. Unfortunately for ZITO’s covid-19 pandemic didn’t allow the world cup to be staged after they conquered Africa. So ZITO too had broken the 11 years of which Ghana had struggled to win U-20 Afcon.

Now the main debate is, A coach who have won two continental/international trophies for Ghana after breaking 11 years jinx and a coach who is about or won in advance a local league trophy for a club after also breaking same 11 years jinx who deserves to be awarded the best coach of the year ?.
