After being wounded in New Jersey, rapper Lil Tjay reportedly underwent emergency surgery.
The shooting with two victims happened around midnight on Wednesday at 14 The Promenade, a shopping center in Edgewater, according to a tweet from the Bergen County prosecutor’s office early on Thursday morning. Both the Edgewater Police Department and the major crimes unit are looking into the incident.
The 21-year-old rapper was one of the victims, and TMZ reported on Wednesday that he was having surgery. His injuries’ severity and state weren’t yet known.
The rapper, whose real name is Tione Jayden Merritt, and the prosecutor’s office’s representatives did not immediately answer Wednesday to demands for comment from The Times.
According to TMZ, the shooting apparently took place at two locations: a Chipotle restaurant at 14 The Promenade and a neighboring Exxon gas station.
The “Goin’ Up” and “Destined 2 Win” rapper shared a “PSA” on his Instagram Stories right before the shooting that read, “Just because you’ve been around a person doesn’t make you entitled to the products of that person’s labor. Be Safe Out There: Envy is at an all-time high.
This week, the rapper uploaded a clip from his next song “Stressed” on TikTok and asked fans when he should release it.
