Underworld crime figure Mahmoud “Brownie” Ahmad was shot dead in Sydney’s south-west on Wednesday night, prompting a search.

Around 9.30 p.m., police were called to Narelle Crescent in Greenacre after reports of a man being shot.

When police came, they discovered a man in his 30s with gunshot wounds, according to police. He was treated by paramedics from NSW Ambulance, but he died at the scene, according to police.

A black Porsche car and a black BMW were also found on fire at Strathfield and Belmore a short time later, indicating that the killer or killers had left. The automobile fires, according to police, are linked to the shooting.

“It was four banging noises at 9.32pm; I saw the time on the computer,” he said.

“And then I heard a car drive off. It just drove off normally. It didn’t drive off quickly.

“There’s always things happening in Greenacre – that’s just the way it is.”

According to authorities, the inquiry into Ahmad’s killing would target known members and associates of criminal networks.

After pleading guilty to the manslaughter of Safwan Charbaji at Condell Park in 2016, Ahmad was sentenced to prison in 2020.

After roughly a half-hour of heated disagreement between two groups of people, shooting erupted on the street outside the A Team Body Works company.

The firefight, which involved four to five firearms, was thought to be about a $100,000 debt at the time.

After the shooting, Ahmad fled to Lebanon for 11 months before pleading guilty in 2020.

Late last year, he was granted parole.

Who is Mahmoud Ahmad?

Ahmad is the brother of Bankstown Central shopping mall shooter Wally Ahmad, who was killed in April 2016.

Wally Ahmad was seated in a cafe at the shopping center when he was shot in broad daylight by a cloaked shooter.
