Marcelo Vieira da Silva Júnior is a Brazilian professional footballer. He plays as a left-back and is the captain of the Real Madrid club. He also played international football for Brazil.

Marcelo was born on May 12, 1988, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He started his professional career in 2005 with Fluminense. In 2006, he won Campeonato Carioca with Fluminense 2006, during which he was named to the Brasileirão Team of the Season, at age 18.

He joined Real Madrid in 2006 and has been playing for the club since. He has won four UEFA Champions League titles and six La Liga titles, among other honors. In 2021, Marcelo became the captain of Real Madrid from the start of the 2021–22 season. He is the most decorated player in the history of Real Madrid, with 24 trophies won.

Marcelo was called up for the 2008 Olympic squad by Brazil, where he won a bronze medal. H also played in the 2013 Confederations Cup and started all five matches for Brazil. He was part of Brazil’s squad in the 2014 FIFA World Cup which was his first World Cup.

He has been named to the FIFPro World XI six times, the UEFA Team of the Year three times, and La Liga’s Team of the Season in 2016. He was also named to France Football’s “Team of the Decade (2010–2019)”
