Martin Ødegaard is a Norwegian professional footballer who captains the Norway national team and plays as an offensive midfielder for Premier League club Arsenal.

Martin Ødegaard was born in Drammen on December 17, 1998.

Ødegaard began his senior club career at the age of 15 in 2014 with Strmsgodset, where he set the Tippeligaen record for the youngest goalscorer, and then signed for Real Madrid in a €4 million (Kr.35 million) transfer in 2015, when he set the club record for the youngest player.

After sporadic playing time, Ødegaard went on loan to Eredivise clubs Heerenveen and Vitesse, as well as La Liga club Real Sociedad, between 2017 and 2019.

With Real Sociedad, he won the Copa del Rey in 2019. He joined for Arsenal in 2021 after another loan, for an initial fee of £29 million (€35 million).

At the age of 15, degaard made his senior international debut for Norway, and he holds the distinction for being the youngest senior Norwegian player and the youngest player to play in a UEFA European Championship qualifying match.

Ødegaard is the son of former Strmsgodset and Sandefjord Fotball midfielder Hans Erik Ødegaard, who also served as the assistant manager of Mjndalen IF from 2009 to 2015.

He made his professional debut while still a student at a local lower secondary school, however he has since completed his required education in Norway. He is a fan of Liverpool, the English club he has characterized as his “dream club.” As a child, degaard idolized Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

Due to his age, Ødegaard was not included in the computer game Football Manager 2015 until his father agreed to his son’s likeness being used.

Ødegaard was raised in a Christian home and has stated that his religious faith is very important to him. In 2015, he was named one of Time’s 30 most influential teenagers.
