Who is Kate Bush?
English singer, songwriter, pianist, and record producer Catherine Bush CBE was born on July 30, 1958. Since then, Bush has released 25 UK Top 40 singles, including the Top 10 hits “The Man with the Child in His Eyes,” “Babooshka,” “Running Up That Hill,” and “Don’t Give Up” (a duet with Peter Gabriel).
Bush has also released “King of the Mountain” and “Running Up That Hill.” Her eight studio albums all debuted in the UK’s Top 10, including Never for Ever (1980), Hounds of Love (1985), and the collection The Whole Story, which all peaked at No. 1. (1986). She was the first female solo artist from Britain to top the UK album charts and the first woman to debut at the top of the album chart.
At age 11, Bush started penning songs. After Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour assisted in creating a demo tape, she was signed to EMI Records. The Kick Inside, her debut album, was published in 1978. Since The Dreaming, Bush has produced all of her studio albums, gradually gaining artistic independence (1982). Between The Red Shoes (1993) and Aerial, her seventh and eighth albums, she took a break (2005). With her concert residency Before the Dawn in 2014, Bush garnered attention once more.
These were her first performances since 1979’s The Tour of Life. Her 1985 song “Running Up That Hill” gained fresh popularity internationally in 2022 after being included in season 4 of the Netflix series Stranger Things.
This caused it to become her second number-one song in the UK and Australia; it also caused it to peak at number four on the US Billboard Hot 100. Hounds of Love also advanced on several lists at this period and became Bush’s first album to top the Billboard Top Alternative Albums chart.
Numerous musicians have been affected by Bush’s eclectic and experimental musical style, outlandish lyrics, live performances, and literary subjects.
