Slovene artist, illustrator, and graphic designer Kostja Gatnik (11 September 1945 – 5 August 2022) is well known for his illustrations for children’s books.

Gatnik was born in 1945 in Ljubljana. He pursued his education at the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts. He was a painter, illustrator, graphic designer, and photographer.

He published cartoons, created puppets and theater costumes, and illustrated more than 60 books. Magna Purga, a comic book hero, is arguably the most well-known of all the characters he designed.

He received the Grand Preeren Award in 2010 in recognition of his lifelong contributions to the arts. He received the Levstik Award for lifetime accomplishment in illustration in 2011.
