Metro Boomin’s family has suffered a tragedy.

Metro Boomin’s mother, Leslie Joanne Wayne, was killed by her husband not Metro’s real father who later committed suicide, according to a TMZ article released on Sunday (June 5). Metro received the devastating news this weekend, according to law enforcement officials, when his mother’s body was recovered by authorities outside of the Atlanta region.

The incident allegedly occurred on Friday, June 3rd, but this has yet to be confirmed. Leslie’s spouse’s identity has not been revealed. An autopsy is currently being conducted to determine the cause of Leslie’s death.

Leslie died over the weekend, according to Metro’s spokespeople, and the family is requesting privacy during this sad time.

Who is Metro Boomin?

Leland Tyler Wayne (born September 16, 1993), better known by his stage name Metro Boomin (sometimes known as Young Metro or just Metro), is an American record producer, executive, and DJ.

Wayne, a St. Louis native, began his production career in high school and rose to prominence in the mid-2010s as a result of his successful collaborations with Atlanta hip hop and trap artists such as Young Thug, Future, 21 Savage, Gucci Mane, and Migos.

In 2017, Forbes labeled him as “arguably one of the most in-demand hitmakers in the world,”[5], and Stereogum dubbed him “one of the most creative, colorful, and significant voices in rap right now.”

Tyler, Leland Wayne was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 16, 1993, and attended Parkway North High School. He is one of four siblings. He began producing beats in the seventh grade, after a brief stint playing bass guitar in his middle school band. This happened after his mother purchased him a laptop and a copy of the FruityLoops music creation program.

Wayne used to make five beats a day in high school. Wayne wanted to rap at first, so he started making beats so he could have music to rap to. He did, however, finally devote himself entirely to hip hop production. While still in high school, he began to use online social media platforms like Twitter to network with more famous rap artists and submit beats for possible song placements.

Who is Metro Boomin’s mother & how was she killed?

On June 5, 2022, Metro Boomin’s mother, Leslie Joanne Wayne, was murdered by his stepfather in a murder-suicide.

Metro Boomin has praised his mother in a number of interviews. The St. Louis-born hitmaker hailed his mother for his regal birth name, Leland Tyler Wayne, which allowed him self-pride in whatever profession he wanted to pursue in a 2016 interview with The Fader.

“My mom wanted to give me a name where, no matter what I wanted to do, I’d be able to do it,” he told the publication. “An astronaut. President. Whatever. Leland Wayne.”

According to, Metro’s mother also sparked his interest in production by getting him a laptop when he was in middle school. Metro and his mother would drive from St. Louis to Atlanta for a 17-hour round-trip to work with O.J. Da Juiceman at his studio in the early stages of his production career. This would happen every weekend, if Metro maintains excellent marks in high school.

Hip-hop stars took to social media after hearing the devastating news to express their condolences and support for Metro Boomin and his family.

Producer Juicy J tweeted, “Prayers up for Metro Boomin.”
