Laura Kuenssberg is a journalist from the United Kingdom. She was the first woman to hold the role of political editor at the BBC, succeeding Nick Robinson in July 2015. After reporting on the 2022 United Kingdom local elections, Kuenssberg resigned down as political editor on May 6, 2022.

She was the first business editor of ITV News and worked as the BBC’s main political correspondent. Between February 2014 and July 2015, she was the chief correspondent for Newsnight.

She was confirmed in March 2022 as the full-time replacement for Andrew Marr as host of BBC One’s flagship Sunday morning politics show, commencing in September 2022.

Kuenssberg is married to James Kelly, a management consultant. They do not have kids.

Kuenssberg was born in 1976 to Nick and Sally Kuenssberg in Rome, Italy. Her father is a businessman, and her mother worked in children’s services, for which she was awarded a CBE in the New Year Honours in 2000.

Ekkehard von Kuenssberg, a co-founder and president of the Royal College of General Practitioners, was her paternal grandpa. Lord Robertson, a judge on the Scottish High Court of Justice, was her maternal grandpa, and his brother, James Wilson Robertson, was the last British Governor-General of Nigeria.

David, her older brother, works for Brighton and Hove City Council as executive director of finance and resources. Joanna Kuenssberg, her older sister, is a former diplomat who served as Mozambique’s high commissioner.

Her father spent several years in Italy working for the British firm Coats Viyella. Kuenssberg attended Laurel Bank School, a private girls’ school in Glasgow, alongside her brother and sister.
