Secret Service shot an armed man in confrontation near White House
On Sunday, March 9, 2025, an armed confrontation occurred near the White House in Washington, D.C., involving U.S. Secret Service personnel.
A man identified as Andrew Dawson was armed with a knife and a gun when he was confronted by agents just after midnight on Sunday, one block from the West Wing.

The incident unfolded around midnight at the intersection of 17th and F Streets, NW, when officers approached Andrews who had been flagged as a potential suicide risk and was reportedly traveling from Indiana.
Upon being approached, he brandished a firearm, prompting Secret Service officers to fire shots.

Dawson was transported to a nearby hospital, and his condition remains unknown. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the Secret Service personnel.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division.

Andrew Dawson has one prior arrest for marijuana possession and drug paraphernalia in 2018, but he has no other criminal record, according to court records from Indiana.
