Trevante Rhodes is an American actor who was born on February 10, 1990. In 2016, he received various awards and recognition for his role as Chiron in the Academy Award-winning picture Moonlight. He was a talented track and field sprinter in his childhood, winning a gold medal at the 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships.

When he was ten years old, his family relocated to Little Elm, Texas. Giovanni is his only sibling. Rhodes was a running back in an option offense with Cole Beasley at quarterback at Little Elm High School. He also filled in at left cornerback for Cole Beasley, who was at right cornerback. Rhodes received four letters in football and track & field during his high school career, where he competed as a sprinter concentrating in the 100 and 200 meter dashes.

At the 2007 UIL Track and Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium, Rhodes finished second behind Whitney Prevost in both distances. While an ACL injury on the football field cut short his senior year, he still received a track and field scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin. He majored in kinesiology.

From 2008 until 2012, Rhodes was a sprinter for the Texas Longhorns. Rhodes helped the United States win gold in the 4100 meters relay at the 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago.
