Trump administration release a draft-list of countries that faces travel ban

In a recently released memo circulating online, the Trump administration is considering imposing travel bans and restrictions on citizens of several countries as part of its new travel ban.

The list includes 43 countries categorized into three groups: red, orange, and yellow. Under the travel ban, each country faces a different form of restriction.

Countries on the “red” list are flatly barred from entering the US. Any form of travel from citizens of these countries is banned. The list includes 11 countries; Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.

The next category, the “orange” category, includes 10 countries. Travels by citizens of these would be restricted but not entirely banned. Business travelers may be allowed to enter under certain conditions but visas won’t be issued for tourists or immigrants.

Countries in this category are; Belarus, Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar, Pakistan, Russia, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Turkmenistan.

The “yellow” category is the most populated category with 22 countries on that list. These countries will be given up to 60 days to clear any perceived deficiencies. The inability to come within the set days will lead to them being moved up to the other categories.

That list, the officials said, included Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominica, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, São Tomé and Príncipe, Vanuatu and Zimbabwe.

It is unclear whether people with existing visas from these countries will be exempted from the ban or get their visas canceled. It is also not known if green card holders from these countries will be exempted.

Officials however stated that the list could be changed as it is yet to be approved by the administration.
