Barnaba Korir, the Nairobi Region Chairperson of Athletics Kenya, verified the unfortunate , saying the deceased suffered stab wounds in the belly.

A criminal inquiry is currently underway, with her spouse at the center of the investigation. He has gone missing, according to police, and they are looking for him.

Tom Makori, the police chief of Elgeyo Marakwet County, has stated that he is wanted for interrogation.

He said: “When police went to Tirop’s house they found her in bed with blood under the bed and a lot of it on the floor.

“When police looked at the body, it looked like she had been stabbed on the neck with what we suspect to be a knife.”

Tirop’s car had its windscreen and windows smashed in, thus police believe there was a personal argument between her and her husband.

Tirop apparently had a knife wound in her stomach in addition to the one on her neck, according to the BBC.

On Wednesday, crime scene investigators were present at the home.

Tirop’s father reported her missing on Tuesday, prompting the finding of her body.

Agnes Tirop, who was 25 years old at the time, was a standout for her country in Tokyo 2020, finishing fourth in the Olympic 5,000m final.

Last month, she broke the world record for a women’s only 10km road event in Germany.
