Was Elon Musk born in Africa? Aside from being one of the richest people in the world, Musk’s background is also incredibly interesting. He is the son of an electromechanical engineer from South Africa and a Canadian model.

Born at the end of apartheid, Musk was raised in a family of immigrants and was fascinated by technology from a young age.

Then, at age 12, he left home without his parents’ permission to study at a college in Ontario, Canada. After graduating, he was bullied by his classmates. In his youth, he developed his first video game, Blastar, inspired by the popular Space Invaders game.

At the age of 18, Elon Musk left South Africa to study at the University of Pretoria. He later moved to Canada with his family and pursued his studies at Queen’s University and the University of Pennsylvania.

He graduated in 1997 from the University of Pennsylvania and continued his education at Stanford University. In the meantime, he co-founded Zip2 Corporation, a website that would eventually be acquired by Compaq for $307 million. His subsequent endeavours included the creation of rockets, electric cars, and Tesla Motors.

Despite his success, Musk’s background isn’t as glamorous as his professional achievements. Although he was born in a non-racially mixed city, he was raised in a middle-class family in South Africa.

His father, Errol, was from the United States and his mother, Maye, was from Canada. He attended a private school in South Africa and studied electrical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania.

After graduating from high school, he went on to study physics at Stanford University. His first company, Zip2, became a successful internet city guide. At twelve, he sold this company for $37 million in cash and stock options.
