Anitta is the stage name of Larissa de Macedo Machado, a Brazilian singer, composer, actress, dancer, businesswoman, and TV presenter. With the release of her single “Show das Poderosas” in 2013, she became a national sensation.

She secured a recording contract with Warner Music Brazil in January 2013 after commercial success with her debut single “Meiga e Abusada” in 2012. She launched her self-titled first album in July of that year, which spawned four hit singles and was certified platinum in Brazil.

Ritmo Perfeito (2014), her second studio album, was similarly a financial success in Brazil, and was followed by the publication of her first live album, Meu Lugar, on the same day.

Bang, her third studio album, was certified platinum in 2015, and featured four hit singles: “Deixa Ele Sofrer,” the title track “Bang,” “Essa Mina é Louca,” and “Cravo e Canela.” The record was essential in cementing her near-total dominance in Brazilian pop music.

Between 2016 and 2018, Anitta collaborated with a number of artists, including Nile Rodgers, Maluma, Iggy Azalea, Major Lazer, Alesso, and J Balvin. Her debut Spanish single, “Paradinha,” was published in 2017, and it marked the beginning of her partial move to Spanish-language Latin pop and reggaeton music. “Downtown,” a collaboration with Colombian singer J Balvin released the same year, became her breakout song in various Spanish-speaking nations. Madonna, Sofa Reyes, Rita Ora, Luis Fonsi, Ozuna, and the Black Eyed Peas were among the acts she collaborated with in 2019.

Kisses (2019), her trilingual fourth studio visual album, won critical acclaim and got her a Latin Grammy Award nomination for Best Urban Music Album. In March 2022, Anitta’s Spanish track “Envolver,” which was published in late 2021, hit the Global Top 50 on Spotify, making her the first Brazilian and Latin female artist with a solo song to achieve so.

The Associaço Paulista de Criticos de Arte (APCA) chose Anitta as the musical revelation of the year in 2013. At the Latin Grammy Awards, Latin American Music Awards, Billboard Latin Music Awards, and Premios Lo Nuestro awards, she has garnered multiple prizes and nominations.

Anitta has won five MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Brazilian Act, making her the first Brazilian to win Best Latin American Act.

According to Billboard, she was named one of the most prominent personalities on social media in 2017.
