Where is Bill Gates From? The son of a schoolteacher and lawyer, Bill Gates grew up in a relatively affluent neighbourhood in Seattle, Washington.
He attended a public elementary school and then the private Lakeside School, where he met his future business partner Paul Allen.
At age 13, he developed his first computer software program. He graduated from Lakeside in 1973 and went on to attend Harvard University.
During his college years, Gates attended Harvard University but dropped out in 1975. His mother was an influential member of many corporate boards, and she was influential enough to introduce her son to the CEO of IBM.
They had both attended Lakeside High School, and Gates was able to make the decision to go to Harvard, where he received his degree in the spring of 1975. The relationship was forged during this time when Gates and Allen met, and the two men became fast friends.
After graduating from Harvard, Bill Gates went to work for Microsoft. In the fall of 1974, he enrolled at the college. Originally, he wanted to pursue a career in law.
However, he dropped out and focused on building a company that he would be proud of. He spent more time in the computer lab than in classes and failed his exams by cramming. His friendship with Allen began in high school, and the two of them began working together as employees.
