Christian worship songstress Darlene Zschech has written over 100 songs, including the popular contemporary hymn, “Shout to the Lord.” In her new book, The Golden Thread, she shares how she’s dealt with cancer and other difficult seasons. After leaving Hillsong Church for more than 25 years, Zschech and her family decided to start a church plant. She now pastors Hope Unlimited Church in New South Wales.

After a successful 25-year career with the Hillsong Church, Darlene decided to leave the church and found a church called Hope Unlimited. Her cancer diagnosis came just before she and her grandson were diagnosed with autism. In her book, she chronicles these obstacles in “The Wilderness,” which she calls “the most difficult chapter.” In her interview with the New York Times, she also reveals that she is now living a happy, fulfilling life with her husband and children.

While still young, Zschech started volunteering in the church, and eventually left the organization to start her own congregation. She began composing songs for international companies. She began singing jingles for international companies and was a regular fixture on social media. She released a cassette album in 1987 called “Make the Choice,” and a vinyl album in 1993 called Pearls & Gold. Her faith in God led her to write the book.
