Mick Lynch career
Lynch, who was employed in construction and had joined a union, ended up on an unlawful blacklist as a result. He started working for Eurostar in 1993 after being unable to find employment in the construction industry. He also got involved with the National Union of Rail, Maritime, and Transport Workers (RMT). He was awarded a sizable payout for the unlawful blacklisting twenty years later.
Lynch served the RMT for two periods as both its executive and Assistant General Secretary. Lynch was appointed as the union’s acting general secretary in 2020 after Mick Cash had to take a leave of absence due to illness. However, Lynch resigned after a few months, alleging that the union’s national executive had bullied and harassed her. This charge was comparable to Cash’s. Lynch won the election for the General Secretary position, which she assumed in May 2021.
Lynch attracted considerable notice for his appearances in interviews and debates on the BBC, Sky News, TalkTV, and ITV as part of the media coverage of the RMT’s 2022 strikes.
