Ashley Suzanne Johnson was born in Camarillo, California on August 9, 1983. She is of Norwegian, Scottish, and Swedish descent.
Johnson attended a school in Burbank and later studied violin and piano at the International School of Music in Glendale.
Johnson was born to Cliff Johnson, an Ex exploration ship captain, and Nancy Spruiell Johnson, a former test pilot and a film producer.
She is the youngest daughter of her parents.
Her father started a new job nine days after Johnson was born and subsequently moved the family to Franklin Michigan; they lived there for a few years before returning to California, where they settled in Los Angeles.
The pretty actress lost her father to liver and lung cancer when 16. At the time of his death, he was also suffering from hepatitis B.
She has an older brother named Chris, an actor who worked on The District, and an older sister named Haylie, an actress who played Haylie on Kids Incorporated.
