Ashley Judd is an actress and political activist from the United States. She is the daughter of country music singer Naomi Judd and half-sister of country music singer Wynonna Judd, and she grew up in a household of performers.

Her acting career has extended more than three decades, and she has been more involved in worldwide humanitarian activities and political activity in recent years.

Judd was born in the Los Angeles suburb of Granada Hills. Naomi Judd, a country music singer and motivational speaker, and Michael Charles Ciminella, a horse racing marketing specialist, are her parents.

Wynonna, Ashley’s older sister, is also a country music artist. Her paternal grandpa was from Sicily (Italy), while her paternal grandmother was a descendant of Mayflower pilgrim William Brewster. Her mother was a housewife when she was born, and she did not become well-known as a singer until the early 1980s.

In 1972, Judd’s parents split. Ashley’s mother moved her back to Naomi’s home state of Kentucky the following year, where Judd had spent the majority of her childhood.

Before college, Judd attended 13 different institutions, including the Sayre School in Lexington, Kentucky, Paul G. Blazer High School in Ashland, Kentucky, and Franklin High School in Franklin, Tennessee. During a school break in Japan, she tried modeling for a short time.

She majored in French and minored in anthropology, art history, drama, and women’s studies at the University of Kentucky, where she was a member of the sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma.

As part of her major, she spent a semester in France. She was nominated to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated from the University of Kentucky Honors Program, although she did not graduate with her class.

She drove to Hollywood after graduation to study acting with Robert Carnegie at Playhouse West. She worked as a hostess at The Ivy restaurant and lived in a Malibu rented house at this time. She moved to Williamson County, Tennessee, about that time to be closer to her mother and sister.

Who is Ashley Judd’s husband?

In December 1999, Judd became engaged to Scottish racing driver Dario Franchitti, who was driving in CART. They married in December 2001 at Skibo Castle in Scotland.

They had no children because Judd is an antinatalist: “It’s unconscionable to breed with the number of children who are starving to death in impoverished countries.” They divorced in 2013.
