Blueface is the stage name of Johnathan Jamall Porter (born January 20, 1997), an American rapper. Due to his odd rhyming style, he became a global meme in October 2018 after releasing the music video for his song “Respect My Cryppin’.” He was signed to Cash Money West, the West Coast division of Birdman’s Cash Money Records label, the following month.

His biggest popular track to date was a remix of his song “Thotiana” (with Cardi B and YG), which peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019. Find the Beat, his debut studio album, was released on March 13, 2020.

Blueface was born in Los Angeles, California, on January 20, 1997. He grew up in central Los Angeles’ Mid-City neighborhood and attended many elementary schools before migrating to the Santa Clarita Valley with his mother, but eventually settling in Oakland with his father.

After relocating to the San Fernando Valley, Blueface enrolled at Arleta High School and joined the marching band, where he played alto saxophone, as well as the football team, where he became the starting quarterback in 2014. He stands 6’4″ tall and weighs 160 pounds.

Blueface led the squad to an East Valley League championship in 2014 as the starting quarterback. Blueface committed to play for Fayetteville State University and briefly played college football before leaving in 2016. He threw for 1,234 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2013 and 1,724 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2014.

In the video for the remix to “Thotiana,” Blueface depicts a top prospect high school quarterback who disrespects his coach owing to his drive to chase ladies and fame, a reference to his own experiences as a football player.

Blueface first became interested in rap music while he was a child, listening to artists such as 50 Cent, The Game, and Snoop Dogg.
