Romelu was born on 13 May 1993 in Antwerp, Belgium. He grew up with his parents and brother. There is no information on his educational history.
He started his career at age five, playing for the Belgium local team Rupel Boom. After four seasons at Rupel Boom, Lukaku was discovered by scouts of Lierse, where he played from 2004 to 2006. He began his senior club career playing for Anderlecht in Belgium. In 2011, he joined Chelsea in a transfer worth £10 million (€12 million), but limited playing time resulted in loans to West Bromwich Albion (2012-2013) and Everton (2013-2014)
In 2014, Lukaku signed with Everton in a then club-record transfer worth £28 million (€32 million). He subsequently signed with Manchester United (2017-2019). He later departed for Inter Milan in 2019. In 2021, he returned to Chelsea in a club-record transfer worth £97.5 million.
Lukaku made his senior international debut in 2010 and has represented his country at four major tournaments: the 2016 and 2020 UEFA European Championships and the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cups; he finished as the joint second-highest goalscorer and won the Bronze Boot in the latter. He is currently the all-time top goalscorer for Belgium.
