Who is Nathan Albanese’s father, Anthony Albanese?

Since 2019, Anthony Norman Albanese has been the Leader of the Opposition and the leader of the Australian Labor Party (ALP).

Since 1996, he has served as a member of parliament (MP) for the Grayndler division. Albanese served as Australia’s deputy prime minister in the second Rudd administration in 2013 and as a cabinet minister in the Rudd and Gillard administrations from 2007 to 2013.

Albanese was born on March 2, 1963, at St Margaret’s Hospital in Darlinghurst, Sydney. Carlo Albanese and Maryanne Ellery are his parents. His mother was of Irish descent from Australia, while his father was from Barletta, Italy.

His parents met in March 1962 on the TSS Fairsky of the Sitmar Line, where his father worked as a steward, on a journey from Sydney to Southampton, but did not continue their relationship after that, going their own ways.

Albanese’s future parliamentary colleague Julia Gillard and her family arrived to South Australia from the United Kingdom on the Fairsky in 1966.

Albanese was told as a child that his father died in a car accident; he did not meet his father, who was still alive, until 2009, thanks to John Faulkner, Carnival Australia CEO Ann Sherry (the parent company of P&O, which acquired the Sitmar Line in 1988), and maritime historian Rob Henderson, and later the Australian Embassy in Italy and ambassador Amanda Vanstone. He then found out that he had two half-siblings.
