Ramatu Abarshi, a philanthropist, and her daughter, Amira, were kidnapped by militants after distributing Ramadan presents in Mariri, Lere Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
Mrs Ramatu Abarshi is the former Head of Department (HOD) of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of the Kaduna Polytechnic, Engr.
Mrs Abarshi, who is also the widow of late Air Commodore A. Abarshi and now the chairperson of Barkindo Rahama Initiative (BRAIN), an NGO helping women, youth and the less privileged, was kidnapped alongside her daughter, Amira Aliyu Abarshi, and her secretary, Engineer Ibrahim Suleiman, on Friday, 22nd.
According to a family source, the bandits must have followed them to Kasuwar Magani, where they were kidnapped and taken to an unknown location.
According to reports, the event occurred on Saturday afternoon, and her relatives have been working to locate them since then.
Her kidnappers have made contact and are demanding N100 million in ransom, according to a family source.
Abarshi, a former Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Kaduna Polytechnic, is well-known in Southern Kaduna for his philanthropy and peace endeavors.
Mohammed Jalige, a spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, said he was unaware of the situation, adding,“you know people don’t always report such incidents immediately to the police.”
