Fan-favourite actor Zolisa Xaluva – who plays Melusi Dlamini – has reportedly left Gomora after not seeing eye to eye with show producers.  

It is believed that viewers will soon not see Xaluva on the telenovela again after his exit.   

Who Zolisa Xaluva?

Zolisa Xaluva is a South African actor and entrepreneur who was born on June 13, 1981. He is most known for his appearances as Jason on the SABC1 soapie Generations and as Lwazi Mboweni on the SABC1 drama series Tsha Tsha’s fourth season.

Zolisa Xaluva was born in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa, on June 13, 1981. When he was 11 years old, his family relocated to Johannesburg. Later, the family relocated to Pretoria to be closer to extended family.

Thando and Nombuyiselo Xaluva are his parents, and he is the third of four children.

In Pretoria, Zolisa Xaluva matriculated. He majored in Media Studies and Communication Science at Technikon Witwatersrand for a few years following matric. Due to financial issues, he withdrew out of the degree with one year remaining. He tried to start a campus radio station for Technikon Witwatersrand to make ends meet, but he was rejected down because he was no longer a student there. As a result, he returned to Port Elizabeth and joined an arts and culture organization that toured schools, performing plays for students. He eventually returned to Pretoria to study acting at Technikon Pretoria, where he received his diploma in 2003.

On SABC 1’s drama series Tsha Tsha season 3, Zolisa Xaluva was cast as Lwazi Mboweni. In 2005, he was cast in the SABC 1 soap series Generations as Jason Malinga. In 2006, the producers of Generations granted him time off to film Tsha Tsha season 4. He scored a minor role as HHP’s Manager on e.tv’s soap opera Rhythm City in 2008, and he also appeared in SABC 1’s miniseries uGugu no Andile and SABC 1’s drama series Tshisa season 2 in the same year.

He earned the part of Melusi, a school administrator, in Mzansi Magic’s serial Gomora in 2020.

Zolisa Xaluva is the winner of the Zolisa Xaluva Award.

In March 2019, Zolisa Xaluva won Best Supporting Actor in a Feature Film for her role in Sew the Winter to My Skin, which also won Best Feature Film.
