So Star Oil prices just changed again; How do they stack up vs GOIL right now?
Star Oil vs GOIL Fuel Prices Today: April 2026 [Live Update: 17 April]

Star Oil and GOIL tied for cheapest fuel in Ghana this window. Here are live pump prices vs the NPA floor, plus who wins on Super 95.
Think of OMCs in Ghana like kelewele sellers. Same basic product, but price, portion, and pepper level differ. Your cedi feels every pesewa.
I checked the latest April 17, 2026 pump prices. Here’s the simple breakdown.
1. Petrol & diesel: Who’s cheapest this week?
NPA set a new price floor April 1. No OMC can sell below GH¢13.30 petrol and GH¢17.10 diesel. That killed the price war.
But from April 16, gov’t stepped in. They absorbed GH¢2.00/litre on diesel and GH¢0.36/litre on petrol to cool prices.

Here’s what you pay now:
- Star Oil: Petrol GH¢13.27/litre, Diesel GH¢16.10/litre, RON 95 GH¢14.67/litre
- GOIL: Petrol GH¢13.27/litre, Diesel GH¢16.10/litre, Super XP 95 GH¢15.77/litre
- Other OMCs: Most are at NPA floor — GH¢13.30 petrol, GH¢17.10 diesel — or higher. Total, Shell, and Vivo usually sit 10-30 pesewas above GOIL/Star Oil.
Your money tip: Star Oil and GOIL are cheapest right now. They dropped diesel by GH¢1.00 overnight. If you fill 50 litres, you save GH¢50 vs an OMC at floor price.
2. Why Star Oil was winning before
Star Oil is market leader by volume. They use price to pull you in.
March 17, 2026: Star Oil sold petrol GH¢12.29 vs GOIL GH¢12.40. Diesel was GH¢14.99 vs GOIL GH¢15.69.
Star Oil CEO said they’d sell petrol at GH¢9.50 after 10pm if NPA allowed it. NPA’s floor stops that. It protects small OMCs but kills night discounts.
Your money tip: Ghanaians are “price sensitive” now. Check Star Oil and GOIL apps before you drive. 10 pesewas/litre adds up.
3. What moved prices up in April?
Two things hit all OMCs the same:
- Global crude: Jumped from $86.55 to $109.66/barrel because of Hormuz tensions
- Cedi: Slipped from GH¢10.91 to GH¢11.05 per dollar
April 1, Star Oil was GH¢13.49 petrol, GH¢17.97 diesel. GOIL was GH¢13.30 and GH¢17.10. So GOIL was cheaper.
Then gov’t subsidy hit April 16 and both dropped to GH¢13.27 and GH¢16.10.
Your money tip: When global oil spikes, all OMCs move together. The only difference is who eats margin to stay cheapest.
4. Who should you buy from?
- Want lowest price? Star Oil or GOIL. They’re tied this window. Star Oil usually wins on diesel.
- Want Super/Premium 95? Star Oil GH¢14.67 beats GOIL GH¢15.77. That’s GH¢1.10/litre saved.
- Loyalty cards? Total, Shell, Vivo give points. But you’ll pay 20-30 pesewas more per litre. Do the math.
COPEC says more OMCs will review prices soon. Prices change every 2 weeks.

| Diesel | GH¢16.10 | GH¢16.10 | GH¢17.10 | Tie |
| Super/Premium 95 | GH¢14.67 | GH¢15.77 | N/A | Star Oil: Save GH¢1.10/L |

The big picture for your wallet
- Short term: Relief. Diesel dropped GH¢1.00 thanks to gov’t subsidy. That’s GH¢50 saved per tank.
- Next 30 days: If crude stays above $100, floor price could rise again. NPA reviews May 1.
- Wild card: Hormuz. If it closes again, forget GH¢13. COPEC warned diesel could hit GH¢18.67.
Bottom line: Star Oil and GOIL are in a tie for cheapest right now. Before April 1, Star Oil led. After the subsidy, they’re even. Other OMCs? You’re paying for brand.
How to stay ahead:
- Check prices 1st & 16th of month. That’s when windows change.
- Use Sedinam or Fuel Monitor apps. They show live prices per station.
- Buy early morning. Some stations honor old price until 8am updates.
