John Joseph Horgan MLA is a British Columbia politician who has served as the province’s 36th and current premier since 2017. Since 2005, he has served as the leader of the British Columbia New Democratic Party and as a member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Langford-Juan de Fuca and precursor constituencies.

Horgan was born in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, on August 7, 1959, to Alice May (Clutterbuck) and Pat Horgan.

When Horgan was 18 months old, his father died, leaving his mother to raise him and his three siblings.

To pay for schooling, he worked various jobs, notably at a pulp factory in Ocean Falls.

Horgan graduated from Trent University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1983. Horgan was diagnosed with bladder cancer in the 2000s.
